It’s been bad news for red-blooded fans of tennis. Ana Ivanovic, Sabini Lisicki and Angelique Kerber have already been dumped out of the first round of the Australian Open. But fear not. For those of you who enjoy beauties as well as backhands, we’ve taken a look at the prettiest players still in the competition. Let’s hope these stick around longer…
10 Petra Kvitova –
A beauty who charmed her fans last year when winning Wimbledon for the second time. That smile of hers is worth the admission charge alone. The Australian Open isn’t her favourite tournament though, having only got past the second round twice in the past six years. Let’s hope we get to see plenty of Petra this year.
9 Daniela Hantuchova
Has been delighting her fans for several years now and even though she’s now in her 30s is looking better than ever. Catch her while you can in Australia as she could meet Serena Williams in the third round.
8 Simona Halep
Good news… Simona is already in the second round. Great news… Simona should easily reach the second week. Romanian Simona famously had a breast reduction to help her tennis reach new heights. And we’re glad she did, because it means we get to see her for longer in competitions like this.
7 Dominika Cibulkova
Thank heavens there are so many female Eastern European tennis players, because they’re all gorgeous. How could we leave Dominika out of this list? If you love looking at this sexy Slovak then you might be in luck over the next fortnight. Cibulkova reached the final last year and should go well again this time around.
6 Julia Goerges
We’re sure you will agree that her looks are definitely as sweet as her potent forehand. With the face and body of a fashionista, German Julia has already breezed past 32-ranked Belinda Bencic and looks good to stick around for the late stages of the Open…which is nice!
5 Samantha Stosur
Aussie babe Samantha will have the backing of the home fans… and she’s got our support in the looks department. Her service is widely considered one of the best when she’s on top form and she’s ranked 20 for the Open. A good outside bet.
4 Monica Puig
Monica might have upset home fans by dumping Aussie Arina Rodinova out, but she’s a firm favourite with us. This pretty Puerto Rican has a decent enough draw, and if she plays as well as she can, she could leave plenty of folk drooling deep into the tournament.
3 Eugenie Bouchard
This heavenly Canadian has taken the tennis world by storm over the past couple of years. Not just with her great play and reaching the Wimbledon final last year but breaking men’s hearts all over the globe. Eugenie has legs to die for and a smile that leaves male viewers all weak at the knees. Definitely an outside tip for the title but has a tough draw.
2 Caroline Wozniacki
Oh Rory what were you thinking when you ended your relationship with this delightful Dane? A former World Number One both in terms of tennis and making money from modelling jobs, Caroline made the final of the US Open last year but has only ever reached one quarter final in Australia.
1 Maria Sharapova
