Annual Florida-based ATP event starts this week

The Miami Open, otherwise known as the Miami Masters, is a prestigious ATP World Tour 1000 event and the best players in the business will be competing for top prize in this year’s event.

Roger Federer and Juan Martin Del Potro, both involved in the Indian Wells final less than 48 hours ago, will both feature in this competition – the former is the market principle at 5/4 whilst Del Potro is available at 3/1.

The Argentine got the better of Federer in Sunday’s Indian Wells showpiece; much to the delight of Del Potro fans across the globe. That was just the seventh time that Del Potro has beaten Federer and that result may spur him on in his pursuit of more ATP glory.

However, Federer will be determined to bounce back at the first time of asking; that was his first defeat in 2018 and he is a worthy favourite here.

At 36 years old, Federer continues to turn back the clock. The Swiss athlete has been simply sublime in 2018 and punters will be backing Federer as he looks to win a fourth Miami Open crown.

He is perhaps a little short in 888sport’s tennis betting odds for some bettors but it is hard to back against him on current form. Federer can make amends for that defeat to Del Potro with a convincing performance in Miami.

Next up in the betting is Novak Djokovic at 13/1. Many believe that the Serbian’s time at the top of the rankings is well and truly over – his form in 2018 would certainly support that opinion.

The former world number one was almost unplayable two years ago but injuries have hindered his chances of glory in recent times. Now down at number 12 in the world, he will need everything to go his way to compete at the business end of the competition.

My personal choice here would be Grigor Dimitrov. The Bulgarian, currently ranked fourth in the world, lost to Federer in the ATP Rotterdam final in February and he can get his revenge here if back to his brilliant best.

17/1 is an excellent price – he is a very consistent player and should have enough talent to go far. Dimitrov’s form in 2018 is of some concern but it would be foolish to write him off just yet.

Looking further down the list of competitors, Alexander Zverev catches the eye at 30/1 – as does Hyeon Chung at 25/1.

Both players can compete on the big stage; Chung has struggled against Federer this year whilst confidence has affected Zverev. Let’s see how both men get on in the early rounds but dismissing either would be a bold move. These two youngers will dominate the sport at some point in the future…

Federer and Del Potro will receive plenty of betting attention – and understandably so. Both men travel to Florida in excellent form but a refreshed Dimitrov could prosper.

The world number four has a tough run to the final but if anyone can defy the odds, it is Dimitrov. This has all the makings of an exciting tournament and neutrals could see the 17/1 Bulgarian romp to a ninth ATP singles title.
