Fulham booked their place in the Championship playoff final on Monday night and either Aston Villa or Middlesbrough will join the Cottagers in the Wembley showpiece.
Over the next four days, the playoff line-ups for all three divisions will be finalised and promotion will become a reality for those victorious teams. Check out our tips on the action below…
ASTON VILLA vs MIDDLESBROUGH
Steve Bruce’s side will take a one-goal lead into the second leg and Villa fans will fancy their chances in this fixture.
A tight contest will suit the hosts; Middlesbrough have to come out and push at some stage and Villa may prosper if the visitors are open at the back. The under 2.5 goals line is in play for me – 4/7 is well worth taking.
Boro will need to improve on Saturday’s disappointing effort to stand any chance of earning a Wembley berth. Tony Pulis will have a plan and Villa will be wary of a response; it could be a fairly open and expansive affair if the visitors go all out.
The selection has landed in each of the last four fixtures between the two sides and a fifth in a row looks likely.
TIP: Under 2.5 goals @ 4/7
ROTHERHAM UNITED vs SCUNTHORPE UNITED
Rotherham were within a whisker of securing a first-leg lead at Glanford Park but Cameron McGeehan’s 88th minute equaliser has kept this tie firmly in the balance.
Back on home soil, Paul Warne’s side will be confident of getting the job done and 6/5 is a decent price given how well Rotherham played last time out.
On the other hand, Scunthorpe will be determined to improve on that effort. The Iron are winless in their previous three fixtures against Rotherham and another tough encounter awaits.
At their brilliant best, Scunthorpe are capable of winning at New York Stadium and this could be one of the most entertaining fixtures of the week.
TIP: Rotherham to win @ 6/5
EXETER CITY vs LINCOLN CITY
Let’s hope the second leg is more exciting than the first. A goalless draw in the opener has handed Exeter the initiative to push on and take full advantage on home soil.
The St James Park faithful will be hoping for a home win and the Grecians will be quietly confident. With so much on the line, both teams to score looks the value bet at EVS though.
Lincoln supporters will be optimistic ahead of the second leg – and rightly so. Their 3-2 win over Exeter at the end of March will have fans dreaming of another huge victory; and Danny Cowley will have his troops fired up.
Plenty of fans will make the trip from Sincil Bank and it could be a happy journey home if everything goes to plan. Watch this space...
TIP: Both teams to score @ EVS
NOTTS COUNTY vs COVENTRY CITY
A 1-1 draw in the first leg was expected; this was always going to be a close fixture. If Notts County find their best form, they could be too strong for Coventry – they were the third highest scorers in League Two this season.
However, a tentative start looks likely; I like the 21/20 available for a draw at half-time. The hosts will not want to concede an early goal…
Meanwhile, the visitors will be looking to avenge April’s 2-1 defeat to Notts County and a late penalty in the first leg has handed Coventry a lifeline.
Backing against the Sky Blues in this contest would be unwise; neither side will want to make a mistake and this one could be a slow burner.
TIP: Draw at half-time @ 21/20
