With just eight Championship fixtures remaining in the 2017/18 season, the race to secure promotion and avoid relegation is heating up. After studying the fixtures, we’ve got four tips on England’s second tier for this weekend – starting with Nottingham Forest and their early trip to Millwall. Check out our thoughts on the action below…
Millwall vs NOTTINGHAM FOREST
Neil Harris’ side are unbeaten in 12 Championship games; a run that stretches back to a 2-1 defeat to Norwich City on New Year’s Day. Millwall have been rock solid during that period, winning eight of those fixtures and the Lions are now just four points off the coveted playoff places. It would be foolish to back against Millwall on current form, right?
Wrong. I’m going with Forest to nick a positive result at the Den. The international break came at the wrong time for Millwall and Forest, on their own seven-match unbeaten run at the moment, can flourish this weekend. It may be hairy at times but Aitor Karanka’s side are capable of snatching a draw – they might even win it.
TIP: Forest to win OR draw @ 19/20
LEEDS UNITED vs BOLTON WANDERERS
With just one win in their last 14 Championship games, Leeds are on a downward trajectory. The Whites have slipped out of playoff contention and must now settle for a mid-table finish after a decent opening to the campaign. The Elland Road faithful will be demanding a much improved finish to 2017/18; momentum ahead of next season is crucial.
Bolton are heading in the opposite direction. After a slow start to the season, the Trotters are building momentum and are now out of the relegation spots. Both teams to score has landed in the last five matches involving these two teams and more goals look likely this weekend. 23/25 is a decent price taking everything into account.
TIP: Both teams to score @ 23/25
MIDDLESBROUGH vs WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS
Another fixture that could see goals at both ends. Middlesbrough are solid enough on home soil and Tony Pulis’ side will be expecting to emerge victorious here. At the time of writing, the hosts occupy the fourth and final playoff spot and three points in this clash could make all the difference in the race for promotion.
Meanwhile, Wolves are still top of the table but Cardiff City are closing in. Winning the title isn’t the be all and end all but the Molineux faithful will want to see their side go up to the Premier League as champions. This one will be tough for Wolves but they are capable of pushing Boro close; EVS is a good price for both teams to hit the back of the net.
TIP: Both teams to score @ EVS
Norwich City vs FULHAM
That 3-2 victory over Reading last time out ended a run of seven Championship matches without a win and the Canaries will be looking to build on that result. Daniel Farke knows that this Norwich side has potential but getting the most out of his side has been a real challenge in recent months. Arguably the most inconsistent team in the second tier…
Fulham are right in the mix for automatic promotion this season and you’d have to fancy Slavisa Jokanovic’s side for playoff glory on current form. The visitors are unbeaten in 12 league games and another victory beckons here. Norwich will put up a decent fight but 21/20 is too good to turn down for an away win.
TIP: Fulham to win @ 21/20
