The Grim Reaper will be in attendance at Goodison Park this weekend when Everton host Arsenal – and it won’t be for Arsene Wenger.
Ronald Koeman’s position is precarious at best right now, with Everton fans now universally against the Dutchman. It is surely only a matter of time until the Goodison Park hierarchy decide to part ways and look elsewhere.
Everton had a difficult set of fixtures to start the campaign but the Toffees are yet to show any signs of improvement so far this season.
Koeman has failed to build momentum in the early weeks and it won’t get any easier this weekend. Arsenal have had their own issues but nothing compared to Everton’s Premier League struggles.
Koeman Living On Bought Time
Only a win will keep Koeman in the job for another week. Farhad Moshiri, Everton’s primary investor, has given the Dutchman his full backing but that can only last for so long.
After an expensive summer at Goodison Park, it is hardly surprising to see frustration growing on the terraces – Toffees supporters are well within their rights to criticise and raise their voice.
I can see Everton scoring this weekend though, it won’t all be doom and gloom. Wayne Rooney is a 5/2 chance to score during 90 minutes and plenty of punters will fancy the former Manchester United man to make another positive impact against the Gunners.
Both teams to score is currently available at 4/6 in our Premier League betting markets and the Toffees have bagged at least once in four of the last five head-to-head encounters between the two sides.
In addition, this market has landed in two of Everton's last three top flight fixtures; and another winner looks likely again this weekend. Sparks do tend to fly when Arsenal and Everton do battle.
It is hard to see either club keeping a clean sheet in this one!
Arsenal’s Away Form Is Woeful At Best
Wenger’s men have failed to build momentum so far this campaign, faring well in front of their home fans but struggling away from north London.
With just one point from four trips in 2017/18, Arsenal are in real need of a confidence boost. Despite their woes on the road, I fancy the Gunners to get back to winning ways on Sunday afternoon.
Everton’s troubles have been well documented and Arsenal are VERY well priced at 2/1 to score in both halves this weekend.
Wenger decided to rest a few key figures ahead of the trip to Merseyside whilst Koeman, chasing a Europa League win, opted for a strong XI for the visit of Lyon.
Alexandre Lacazette has struggled away from the Emirates Stadium during his brief Arsenal tenure but the Frenchman could prosper here.
At the time of writing, the former Lyon star is valued at 5/4 to get his name on the scoresheet – and it would take a brave man to back against Lacazette considering Everton’s poor run of form.
I’m expecting a big Arsenal performance here. An Everton defeat will almost certainly signal the end of Koeman’s Toffees career and a fresh start could be exactly what the Merseyside outfit needs. Everton fans are already tired of excuses - it is time to start delivering.
On current form, it is difficult to support Everton – even on home soil. An early goal could set the tone for the afternoon and Arsenal may run out comfortable winners. 2/1 for the Gunners to score in both halves is my bet of the day...
