It is do or die time for Mensur Suljovic and Peter Wright. With Gerwyn Price destined for elimination, the onus is now on these two men to avoid the drop. Fireworks could be on the cards at the Echo Arena.
The former is currently occupying ninth place whilst world number two Wright is just one point above the Austrian. There is still everything to play for in Liverpool this week and it could be a fantastic evening of top quality darts. Check out our top tips on the action below…
SIMON WHITLOCK vs Gerwyn Price
After a solid start to the 2018 season, Whitlock has slipped down the pecking order in recent weeks. The Australian is fifth in the table but needs a victory to boost his chances of qualifying for Finals night.
This is certainly a winnable fixture and plenty of darts followers will be expecting a convincing performance from ‘the Wizard’ on Thursday evening.
Price has been involved in plenty of controversy during this Premier League Darts campaign and it may be some time before we see the Welshman feature in this competition again.
On current form, it is impossible to back ‘the Iceman’ and Whitlock is well worth a punt at 4/6. Price’s attitude has been awful in recent weeks and another defeat beckons here.
TIP: Simon Whitlock to win @ 4/6
Raymond van Barneveld vs MICHAEL SMITH
With just one point separating fourth and seventh, a win for Van Barneveld would make the world of difference. The Dutchman has been inconsistent this year but a positive result would certainly help his playoff chances.
Barney could prosper on the big stage once again and plenty of neutrals will be getting behind the five-time world champion on the Liverpool stage.
Smith has been fantastic for most of the Premier League season and another solid showing looks likely here. A victory on Thursday night would bolster his chances of a top four finish.
This is a tough one to call but 'Bully Boy' is a great price at EVS to hit more 180s than his opponent. Smith's power scoring could give him the edge.
TIP: Michael Smith to hit most 180s @ EVS
GARY ANDERSON vs Rob Cross
The ‘Flying Scotsman’ is one of the most consistent players in darts and he rarely has a bad game. When he struggles, he really struggles though and Cross will look to take advantage of any early issues.
Anderson is unbeaten in five Premier League games and 27/20 is a decent price considering his recent resurgence. Write him off at your peril...
Cross suffered a surprise defeat to Gurney last time out but the world champion will expect to respond at the first time of asking. Prior to that run, Cross had been in supreme form and Anderson will have his work cut out here.
This one could go either way but I fancy Anderson to pick up a huge two points in his pursuit of Premier League glory. A win will do his top four chances no harm at all.
TIP: Gary Anderson to win @ 27/20
Mensur Suljovic vs MICHAEL VAN GERWEN
Suljovic is in real trouble. Having won just two of his eight Premier League games so far this season, the Austrian is on the verge of elimination. You won’t find too many people backing Suljovic in Liverpool.
Most fans will be expecting the Dutchman to prevail but this could be Suljovic’s time to shine on the big stage.
Van Gerwen has been simply sublime in 2018 and it would take a brave man to back against the Dutchman here. The world number one is a class above his rivals on top form and this has all the makings of another victory.
His price to beat Suljovic on Thursday night is short enough so I’ve opted for Van Gerwen to win AND hit the most 180s at a more appealing 13/25.
TIP: Michael Van Gerwen to win and hit most 180s @ 13/25
DARYL GURNEY vs Peter Wright
Gurney needed something big to kickstart his Premier League campaign and last week’s 7-5 win against Cross may spur him into life. On his day, he can beat anybody and this clash is there for the taking.
On current form, Gurney has the talent to emerge victorious here and the Liverpool crowd will be fully behind him on Thursday evening.
Wright was one of the favourites for Premier League glory back in January but it just hasn’t gone to plan for the world number two. Instead, ‘Snakebite’ is now in a real battle to avoid an early elimination.
Beating Gurney after his exploits last time out will not be easy by any means and I fancy the Northern Irishman to build on that victory with another two points.
TIP: Daryl Gurney to win @ 8/5
