We are now entering the business end of the Premier League Darts season. Gerwyn Price and Mensur Suljovic were eliminated last week but the show goes on for the remaining 10 players.
Sheffield’s FlyDSA Arena will host Thursday’s event and fans will be anticipating an exciting night of darts action. Check out our best bets below…
Raymond van Barneveld vs DARYL GURNEY
Van Barneveld is always well supported on the PDC circuit and he will have the full support of the Sheffield crowd this week.
The five-time world champion has the quality to go close but this may be a step too far – he has struggled to hit top form in recent weeks. This should be an exciting encounter to get Thursday evening off to the perfect start.
Backing against Gurney on current form would be foolish. The Northern Irishman has now avoided defeat in each of his previous five Premier League fixtures and he looks well priced at 27/20 to snatch another victory on Thursday night.
Gurney is still in the mix to finish in the top four and two points here will certainly boost his chances.
TIP: Daryl Gurney to win @ 27/20
GARY ANDERSON vs Peter Wright
Anderson is in fantastic form, winning 22 matches in a row before falling short against Rob Cross last time out. He looks destined to challenge for Premier League glory in the coming weeks and it would take a brave man to write him off here.
The 47-year-old is a solid price to win this weekend, the 6/4 on offer for Anderson to emerge victorious AND hit more 180s than Wright is worth taking.
Wright has failed to inspire confidence in this year’s Premier League; the Scot survived Judgement Night by the skin of his teeth.
Currently ranked as the second-best player on the planet, he is capable of producing a big effort when required but it is hard to place too much faith in Wright at this moment in time. Another defeat beckons here.
TIP: Gary Anderson to win and most 180s @ 6/4
Simon Whitlock vs MICHAEL VAN GERWEN
Whitlock started the season strongly but the Australian’s form has tailed off in recent weeks and it is hard to back him in this contest.
He has shown glimpses of his best in appearances in the Euro Tour and Pro Tour but this may be a step too far. His opponent is one of the best darts players of all-time and he is in blistering form.
Van Gerwen is playing at the top of his game and it is hard to see anybody pipping him to the Premier League title this season.
He is unstoppable at his brilliant best – not even world champion Rob Cross can match his power scoring and double hitting. 17/20 for MVG to hit four or more 180s in Sheffield looks like a decent price.
TIP: Michael Van Gerwen to hit four or more 180s @ 17/20
Michael Smith vs ROB CROSS
For the most part of this year’s Premier League campaign, Smith has been fighting it out at the top of the table. He is still very much in the mix to reach Finals night but winning the competition seems unlikely.
Smith needs a confidence boosting victory over a title rival to enhance his chances of success on the biggest stage of all.
Cross fell short against Gurney a couple of weeks ago but managed to get back to winning ways at the first time of asking last week. The world champion is one of the most talented players in darts and a huge victory beckons here.
Smith is right in the mix but Cross is more consistent at the oche and 22/25 is a good price for a win in his favour.
TIP: Rob Cross to win @ 22/25
