Founded in 1865 by a group of shinty players just after their neighbours Notts County created their football club, the squad played in the Football Alliance before entering the Football League.
One of the most memorable things about Nottingham Forest was their charitable spirit. In fact, in 1886, Forest donated a number of football kits to Arsenal to help them establish themselves, and to this day the team still wear red. The team also helped the sport by donating shirts to Liverpool, as well as helping Brighton & Hove Albion secure a site to play on. It was this charitable nature that made them memorable, but it was their first major win in 1898 in the FA Cup that kick started their football history. The team bounced up and down from the first to the second divisions and back again, but in 1949 they were relegated to the third division. Nevertheless they were promoted two years later scoring a record 110 goals in the 1950-51 seasons. After this, the club endured a period of glory through the First Division and won the FA cup for a second time in 1959.
Forest quickly replaced Notts County as the biggest club in Nottingham, and continued their successful as runners up in the First Division and FA Cup semi-finalists in 1967. Although following this they were relegated, were promoted and then relegated again the club remained relatively successful along the way. One of the most successful managers that Nottingham Forest had was Brian Clough, who managed the team from 1975-1993. Under him, the club won promotion, and, went on to win the European Cup, retained the trophy, won the European Super Cup and Two League Cups. They then won the Football League Cup again in 1989 and the Full Members Cup, and finished third in the league. With a huge number of trophies under the belt and a being winners of a number of domestic leagues, various national cups, European cups and worldwide cups, as well as a few minor/friendly tournaments it is safe to say that Forest were a very successful club in their time.
With 151 years since they were founded, and their home colours remaining almost unchanged as they bare their red kit, here at 888sport, we are exceptionally proud to be sponsoring the club. Find out more about this club’s extensive history, managers, stadium and more with our detailed infographic.
